5 peptide reconstitution mistakes that ruin a vial
You can buy 99% pure peptide and lose half of it in 30 seconds at reconstitution. These are the five mistakes that actually cost users potency, ranked by how often we see them.
1. Spraying water directly onto the lyophilised cake
Bacteriostatic water hitting the peptide cake at force fragments it. Always tilt the vial and let the water run down the inside wall.
2. Shaking instead of swirling
Shaking creates foam, which traps and denatures peptide. Swirl gently until dissolved, never shake. If foam forms, wait for it to settle before drawing up.
3. Wrong diluent
Use bacteriostatic water for multi-use vials. Sterile water is acceptable for single-use; tap water is never acceptable. Some peptides (e.g. AOD-9604) prefer specific diluents. Check the vendor's reconstitution instructions.
4. Wrong volume math
The most common dosing error in peptide use is reconstitution-volume math. Work out mg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe so you can read the mark directly.
5. Storing reconstituted vials at room temperature
Reconstituted peptides should be refrigerated (2-8°C) and most are stable for 2-4 weeks. Room-temperature storage halves shelf life and causes silent potency loss: you'll still see numbers on your syringe, but they don't mean what you think.
